Carlos Everett Conant (1870-1925) was an American philologist and scholar. He worked as a government translator and interpreter of Spanish and Philippine languages in Manila from 1904 to 1907 and taught philology at the University of Chattanooga, University of Chicago and Indiana University. Collection consists of Conant's writings, speeches and notes concerning his study of the languages of the Philippines (Malayo-Polynesian), correspondence, translations, photographs, and printed ephemera. Writings make up the bulk of his papers together with a few dictionaries in manuscript form. Correspondence, 1904-1917, relates to translations of materials in English. Also, English translations of dramas and poetical works, religious essays in Spanish, a few photographs, and printed ephemera.
